What are the common standardised tests and entrance exams?

Our tutors can provide personalised, individualised and focused lessons in:

11+ Preparation: The 11+ is an entrance examination for secondary school. It is used to identify academically enriched students, by both state-funded grammar schools and several private schools. The exam is taken towards the end of Year 5 or beginning of Year 6 of primary school. This requires tutoring for about 9-12 months prior to the tests because of its competitive nature. English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning are the areas covered.

SATs Preparation: SATs (or Standard Assessment Tests) are national tests. In primary school, it is taken at the end of Year 2 (Key Stage 1) and at the end of Year 6 (Key Stage 2), in English Reading, Maths, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. Separate SATs are also taken in Writing and Science.

GCSE Preparation: GCSE or General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations are taken at the end of compulsory school education in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Studies for these examinations usually take place over 2-3 years, with examinations taken at the end of Year 11. Maths, English Language, English Literature, Welsh (if you live in Wales) and Sciences like Biology, Physics and Chemistry are the core subjects covered in GCSE. You also must do foundation subjects like Physical Education, Computing and Citizenship. Optional GCSE subjects vary from school to school.

A & AS Level Preparation: AS (Advanced Subsidiary) and A (Advanced) level qualifications are usually taken in Years 12 and 13, after completing GCSEs. AS levels involve 180 guided learning hours while A-levels involve 360 guided learning hours because of their more advanced nature. Typical A-level subjects include History, Music, Chemistry, English Literature, English Language, Maths, Law, Philosophy and Psychology. Again, options vary from institution to institution.
